SEIU Illinois exists to provide us with a voice in our workplaces and our communities. Our goals are to protect and improve the standard of living of our members and their families, to affirm the dignity of our members and the services they provide, and to create a more just and humane society.
Our work is guided by our vision of a society where all workers and their families live and work in dignity; where work is fulfilling and fairly rewarded; and where all workers have a meaningful voice in decisions that affect them!
SEIU, the largest union in the nation, was founded in Chicago nearly 100 years ago. Today our locals carry on a proud tradition of advocating for working people from the workplace, to the bargaining table to the State Capitol, to the U.S. Congress. We unite our membership in Illinois, Indiana, southern Wisconsin, St. Louis, MO to speak with one voice and to pool the resources and leverage of the entire membership to bargain better contracts and to bring the benefits of SEIU membership to non-union workers.
Our mission is accomplished through several interrelated activities:
-
voter registration
-
political action fundraising
-
lobbying
-
member and public education
-
coalition building
-
member mobilization
-
political activists' training
-
'Get Out the Vote' efforts
